As we feel strongly concerned by issues such as Environment and Justice, we chose to be coherent in our daily practices by:
- Growing organic - although not certified
- Coordinating the local farmers' market "Bia Arann" in 2007
- Exchanging seeds and advice with the other growers of the island
- Organising a horticulture course for the islanders in 2007 and 2008, in collaboration with Dolores Keegan, Garrai Na nOilean and the National Organic Training Skillnet
- Feeding our free range chickens with good quality grains
- Promoting responsible tourism: we are part of the Green Holiday Guide published by ECEAT
- Applying special rates to families and slow travellers
- Consuming and offering as many local, organic and Fairtrade products as possible
- Using eco cleaning products (Lilly's, made in Ireland)
- Following and promoting the local recycling system
- Learning and applying traditional knowledge on seaweeds use, natural remedies, dry stone wall building and beekeeping
- Displaying leaflets from various environmental or political organisations (more leaflets welcome!)
- Using energy responsibly (low-energy bulbs, water management and a pellet stove purchased thanks to Sustainable Energy Ireland)
- Moving with our bikes or public transports
- Cooperating with international volunteers
Please don't hesitate to ask questions or to make suggestions about these practices, we'll be happy to exchange with you.
