As the Lodge is part of the Independent Hostels of Ireland network, we provide a "low cost accommodation in a relaxed, clean and friendly environment."
Our hostel, a 300-year-old building that used to be the bailiff's house has a lot of character.
We are happy to use it now as a place to promote progressive ideas such as cooperation, fair trade and organic growing!
We want to provide a peaceful and quiet atmosphere, so we ask our guests not to drink any alcohol, not to smoke and to switch off their mobile phones while inside.
IMPORTANT: Please remember that you're coming to the countryside and to a windy/rainy island on the edge of the Atlantic ocean.
You'll need to bring warm/waterproof clothes and comfortable shoes whatever the season is.
==> The hostel is open from 1 April to 31 October.
There are 20 beds in 3 different dormitories (6, 6 and 8-bedded dorms), with a collective kitchen, bathroom, and a large and cosy living-room which can also serve as a meeting/workshop room. The beautiful land surrounding the hostel allows for outdoor camping as well.
Our 2008 rates:
In dorms: Euro 16 / person / night ; Euro 10 / child under 10 for familiesCamping: Euro 10 / person / night ; Euro 5 / child under 10 for families
Renting the whole place: Euro 288 / night for 20 beds
Special rates for slow travellers!
Please check-in between 2:00 and 9:00 p.m. and pay cash on arrival.
Groups of over 4 people - except families - will be also asked to pay a cash deposit in order to guarantee a quiet atmosphere. We'll be sincerely happy to give it back before the departure if there was no damage/disturbance during the previous night.
Means of transportation: To get to the island you'll need to take a ferry from Rossaveal, Co. Galway (Aran Direct or Island Ferries are the companies providing the service) or from Doolin, Co. Clare (Doolin Ferries). You can also take the plane but this is not really environmentally friendly!
Once on the island you can come over to the Lodge by foot, that would take 30 minutes. Or you can find a taxi / tour bus and bikes for rent close to the pier in Kilronan. Phone numbers are on display at the entrance of our hostel.
